APPA Member institution Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO, is embarking on a three-phase project to transform the university’s energy infrastructure.
With a projected cost of up to $105 million, it is the largest capital project in Northwest’s history. The university is partnering with multiple construction and engineering entities to upgrade energy distribution, domestic water, sewer, stormwater systems, and heating, cooling, and electrical systems.
Phase I of the project began in the Spring of 2024. It consisted of replacing two chillers at the chilling plant, converting the centralized steam plant to a decentralized hot water plant, upgrading electrical infrastructure, and upgrading domestic water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater. Phase II is expected to begin in Winter/Summer 2025, and the final phase—Phase III—should be underway in Summer 2026.
Visit Northwest Missouri’s website for more information about the project.
