ADDRESSING THE CLIMATE EMERGENCY
In a recent issue of Scientific American, the science-based journal announced that it was joining more than 13,000 scientists and a host of news and information outlets in stating that “We are Living in a Climate Emergency, and We’re Going to Say So.”
The continuing spate of tornados and hurricanes well past their usual “seasons,” more extensive flooding, snowstorms and frigid temperatures well into spring, and droughts and fire threats still continuing in many parts of the world—all are clear indicators that we have got to do better to reduce the carbon output from our buildings, vehicles, and our population centers.
APPA member colleges, universities, and schools are continuing to make strides in doing their part in the effort to be good environmental stewards, increase energy efficiencies, and develop sustainable programs that benefit their students, staff, and local community.
