Essential Techniques and Calculations for Energy Managers & Commissioning Authorities

APPA member rate: $29

While buildings are responsible for approximately 40% of the energy consumed in the U.S. the EPA estimates an average of 30% of the energy used in commercial facilities is wasted. Reducing this waste requires a comprehensive energy management program to meet the latest energy efficiency standards and established greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction goals.

The process of managing a facility’s energy demand and consumption requires a methodical approach involving data gathering, assessment of existing systems, identification of savings’ opportunities, and thorough analysis of these opportunities with respect to both energy and cost savings.

This 2-hour virtual training session offers a deep dive into this process along with sample scenarios and calculations including developing a facility’s energy baseline, benchmarking against comparable facilities, and evaluating sample energy saving opportunities associated with lighting, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and the addition of insulation to a building’s envelope. Calculations will show both energy and dollar savings.

Learning Objectives:

*Understanding the importance of energy management
*Codes, standards, guidelines and ordinances governing facilities’ energy use
*Establishing energy baselines and benchmarks
*ASHRAE standards for energy auditing – levels and process
*Sample calculations and available tools for evaluation of energy saving opportunities

Who Should Attend:
Energy Managers, Commissioning Providers, MEP Engineers, Facility / Property Managers, O&M Staff, Building Owners, Architects, Other Building Professionals

Approved for 2 AIA LUs
