November 12, 2024

APPA is excited to announce the appointment of Michelle Frederick as Senior Director of Learning & Certification.

A graduate of the University of Maryland, Frederick comes to APPA from American University, where she served as senior director of talent development. Before coming to American University, she was a training specialist for the Office of Physical Plant at the Smithsonian Institution.

“I am excited to be joining the APPA staff. Frederick said. “I have been a volunteer and member of this organization for 30 years and look forward to contributing to its success in a new way.”

As an APPA volunteer, Frederick is one of the developers and facilitators of APPA’s “Supervisor’s Toolkit: Nuts and Bolts of Facilities Supervision” training program. She also serves as dean of Supervisor’s Toolkit and assistant dean of the General Administration track of the Institute for Facilities Management. In addition, she has been an active member of the local and Eastern Region of APPA (ERAPPA) in several positions, including education representative, editor of the ERAPPA Newsletter, vice president of professional development, and president-elect/president. She has presented at several chapter, regional, and national APPA meetings on teamwork, organizational change, recognition, and leadership.

“We are delighted to welcome Michelle to APPA. Her exceptional background in talent development and her dedication to professional growth make her the perfect fit to lead our Learning & Certification initiatives,” said Lalit Agarwal, President & CEO of APPA. “Michelle’s long-standing commitment to APPA’s mission and her expertise in facilities management training will be invaluable as we continue to expand our programs and support our members’ professional development needs.”

For her goals in this new role, Frederick said, “I want to build on the success of all the APPA educational programming to help grow our members and prepare them for the future. To do this means looking at the current programming, assessing its overall value, and making improvements where needed. It also means talking to our members and finding out what their educational needs are now and for the future so we can build the programming they want.”

Please join us in welcoming Michelle to APPA!
