Platform Statement:

I would like to serve as APPA’s Treasurer because I believe that I could be of assistance in helping to aid in the organization’s fiscal goals and objectives. I trust that I would bring some of the resources I have helped to implement at The University of Chicago – Facilities Services to APPA to ensure it remains financially healthy and vibrant. As a financial leader, you should be a strong steward and have a passion for financial data review and integrity which I strive to demonstrate daily.

Biography:

Crystal D. Smith has extensive experience in managing finances in higher education facilities services. In her current role as Associate Director of Finance at The University of Chicago – Facilities Services, she oversees the budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis for an operating budget of $121M. She ensures that the budgets are on target or slightly below each fiscal year and has implemented various financial best practices to ensure the financials follow all state and federal regulations.  Crystal obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Indiana University, and a Master of Accounting and Financial Management from Keller Graduate School of Management.  She has received numerous awards for outstanding teamwork in her current and prior roles at The University of Chicago – Facilities Services.  She also received a completion certificate for the Executive Program for Emerging Leaders from The University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business which she was selected to attend.  Recently, Crystal and her team were selected to present their budgeting best practices at the 2022 CAPPA Conference.
