From high employee turnover and prolonged vacancies to student mental health, political unrest, and climate anxiety, colleges and universities face serious challenges related to community and institutional well-being. APPA members are encouraged to register for a free virtual event in late February exploring the roots of these challenges as well as strategies for activating collective well-being on campuses everywhere.
“Well-being in Higher Education: Raising Literacy and Advancing the Conversation” takes place February 26 – March 1, 2024. More than 21 higher-education associations, including APPA and NASPA: Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, are involved in this program.
The 38 sessions, which can be enjoyed as watch sessions among colleagues, cover topics including managing anxiety and stress in the workplace, trauma-informed practices as vehicles for well-being, using student ID cards for mental health, and professional resiliency. After attending, participants are expected to be able to:
- Articulate why well-being is critical to the mission of higher education
- Discuss how each campus position is inherently a part of well-being work
- Describe the aspects of well-being and differentiate between wellness and well-being
- Identify opportunities for collaboration to increase campus well-being
