Hunger: A Growing Problem
People in almost every part of San Francisco and Marin, and from all walks of life, can find themselves unable to afford all the food they need. As APPA/PCAPPA/BayAPPA is welcomed by the San Francisco and Marin community for our 2017 Annual Meeting & Exhibition, let’s truly become part of the community. Our service project this year will partner efforts with the San Francisco/Marin Food Bank through a monetary donation & food drive! Visit today our APPA/PCAPPA/BayAPPA Team Fundraising site that will allow for direct donations. Then during the APPA/PCAPPA/BayAPPA 2017 meeting, we will have available a collection barrel for our local attendees to make food donations to be picked up at the conclusion of the conference. We will also be holding special raffles throughout the event to help with our donation goal of $5,000! Information about how those ‘pop up’ events will occur will be advertised in Guidebook. If you are looking for additional ways to support this effort, please contact APPA staff at education@appa.org.

Programming Block 1: The CIO and Shared Governance
Join us for our breakfast presentation as we discuss the IT realities of today’s facilities organization. How do facilities centric IT systems, such as, Direct Digital Controls systems, CMMS, GIS, BIM, etc. integrate with our campus IT systems. What is the best ownership model to support these systems? Should the facilities organization host and manage or should this fall to the Campus IT system. How is the Building Automation System (BAS) hosted? What are the cyber security concerns of running the BAS over the campus fiber system? Should the BAS run on a distinct fiber ring or wireless system? What information from these systems should be available to the public and what needs to be protected? And who should pay for the systems, where many benefit? As technology provides us ever more capabilities, we need your thoughts on how to leverage this capability to improve our services and reduce our costs.
SPEAKER: Shane Riggio,
Vice President, Information Technology, Macerich
Programming Block 2: From Tradesman to Cyber Technician
As leaders of facilities organizations we are facing the perfect storm--an aging workforce, and the increasingly technical skillsets required for our staff. How do we hire and hold onto technicians that can operate our newest control and HVAC systems. How do we convince our HR departments that a boiler operator of yesterday, and not meet the demands of our systems today. Not only are our job descriptions out of date, but more importantly the pay scales associated with these positons. If these technicians reduce our energy expenditures, can we redirect that money to compensation and training? Join your fellow SFOs in a discussion on the best strategies to hire, train, and hold on to highly skilled, IT savvy technicians.

Programming Block 4: Leaving the Place Better Than We Found It!
You have spent the last 10 years dealing with declining budgets and increasing demands. How could you have the time to think about preparing your organization for your departure? Stick your hand in a bucket of water and pull it out. The time it takes for the water to refill the void left by your hand is the time you will be missed. Is this the legacy you want to leave? How can we prepare now to ensure our successor(s) has the right workforce, and the right organization to continue to build on your success? Let’s put our heads together to discuss best practices in succession planning, subordinate leadership development, mentoring, and future proofing your team.

Your group will be awed by one of the most magnificent Redwood forests in the world - Muir Woods, a site not to be missed on a trip to San Francisco. Muir Woods National Monument is 550 acres dedicated to the coastal redwoods, some of the tallest and oldest trees in the world. The park was named by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1908 to honor the naturalist John Muir. Muir declared, "This is the best tree-lovers' monument that could possibly be found in all the forests of the world." Your guests will wander in quiet awe past freshwater streams, lush greenery, and redwood trees reaching over 200 feet high. Next, you're off to the charming town of Sausalito. Because of its Mediterranean flair and breathtaking views, it is often compared to the French Riviera. You will enjoy time to stroll along the waterfront, watch the sea lions cavort, rest in the plaza and listen to the splashing fountain, soak up the ambiance in the many open air cafes, browse through the unique boutiques, and check out the marinas.

Impact Destinations & Events offers your guests the opportunity to do "hard time'' on Alcatraz Island Federal Penitentiary. Infamous Alcatraz Island is one of San Francisco's most popular destinations. Alcatraz was the Army's first long-term prison, and it was already beginning to build its reputation as a tough detention facility by exposing inmates to harsh confinement conditions and ironhanded discipline. The prisoners were separated into three classes based on their conduct and on the crimes they had committed, and each class held distinct levels of privilege. Your guests will board a ferryboat for the brief trip to Alcatraz. Here your guests see the main cellblock which once housed such notorious criminals as Al Capone and Robert "The Birdman" Stroud. As your guests walk the cold corridors, they will hear footsteps echoing, jail cell doors closing, keys rattling. As they step into the dark solitary confinement cell, the prison life seems so real!
Package Includes:
Transportation to and from hotel to Alcatraz
Admission on ferry and admission to Alcatraz Island
Self-guided Alcatraz cellblock headset audio tour
ALERT: APPA has requested a 9:30am ferry departure. However, we will be contacted by Impact no later than June 22nd if we are not granted that ferry departure time for schedule adjustments. Standard procedure for this event is to ‘guarantee’ 30 days out for final ferry times.
