As a reminder special discounts are available for conference attendees, with an extra 10% to all first-time attendees.

The APPA Ambassador Scholarship program awards scholarships to facilities professionals based on demonstrated financial need and an expressed interest in pursuing professional development. The scholarship criteria is as follows: The facilities professionals eligible for assistance must be employed at an APPA institution, have been in the field of educational facilities for a minimum of 5 years, in a supervisor level or higher with decision making authority, and have never attended APPA’s annual conference . Applicants must submit a scholarship application on the form provided by APPA. Applicants must receive an approval signature from their supervisor prior to submitting final paperwork to APPA. Each scholarship awarded will be made in the amount of $1,795. To access the 2016 application and review additional guidelines, click here.

NOTE: Your registration fees will be automatically deducted and the balance awarded to you/your institution to offset travel expenses.

APPA/PCAPPA 2017 gives you the opportunity to earn continuing education units (CEUs). Transcripts will be available approximately four weeks after the conclusion of the meeting. APPA will also be working with AIA on credits for specific programs and will release updates on this ability in the coming months.

APPA will refund the full cost of your registration if you cancel by May 1, 2017. Your request for cancellation must be made in writing to us at education@appa.org. Should you cancel your registration from May 2nd to May 31st, APPA will refund your registration fees minus 45% of the amount previously paid. Any request for cancellation received after May 31st will result in a complete forfeiture of fees previously paid.

Hunger: A Growing Problem

People in almost every part of San Francisco and Marin, and from all walks of life, can find themselves unable to afford all the food they need. As APPA/PCAPPA/BayAPPA is welcomed by the San Francisco and Marin community for our 2017 Annual Meeting & Exhibition, let’s truly become part of the community.   Our service project this year will partner efforts with the San Francisco/Marin Food Bank through a monetary donation & food drive!  Visit today our APPA/PCAPPA/BayAPPA Team Fundraising site that will allow for direct donations. Then during the APPA/PCAPPA/BayAPPA 2017 meeting, we will have available a collection barrel for our local attendees to make food donations to be picked up at the conclusion of the conference.  We will also be holding special raffles throughout the event to help with our donation goal of $5,000! Information about how those ‘pop up’ events will occur will be advertised in Guidebook.  If you are looking for additional ways to support this effort, please contact APPA staff at education@appa.org.

Programming Block 1: The CIO and Shared Governance
Join us for our breakfast presentation as we discuss the IT realities of today’s facilities organization.  How do facilities centric IT systems, such as, Direct Digital Controls systems, CMMS, GIS, BIM, etc. integrate with our campus IT systems.  What is the best ownership model to support these systems?  Should the facilities organization host and manage or should this fall to the Campus IT system.  How is the Building Automation System (BAS) hosted?  What are the cyber security concerns of running the BAS over the campus fiber system?  Should the BAS run on a distinct fiber ring or wireless system?  What information from these systems should be available to the public and what needs to be protected?  And who should pay for the systems, where many benefit?  As technology provides us ever more capabilities, we need your thoughts on how to leverage this capability to improve our services and reduce our costs.

As leaders of facilities organizations we are facing the perfect storm--an aging workforce, and the increasingly technical skillsets required for our staff.  How do we hire and hold onto technicians that can operate our newest control and HVAC systems.  How do we convince our HR departments that a boiler operator of yesterday, and not meet the demands of our systems today.  Not only are our job descriptions out of date, but more importantly the pay scales associated with these positons.  If these technicians reduce our energy expenditures, can we redirect that money to compensation and training? Join your fellow SFOs in a discussion on the best strategies to hire, train, and hold on to highly skilled, IT savvy technicians.
