Effective & Innovative Practices Award

2009 Award Nominations Open

Nominations are now being taken for APPA’s 2009 institutional and individual awards: Award for Excellence, Effective and Innovative Practices Award, APPA Fellow, Meritorious Service Award, and Pacesetter Award. The deadline for consideration for the 2009 awards is January 30, 2009. However, award submissions will now be accepted year-round. Awards submitted after January 30, 2009 will be held and considered in the 2010 award cycle.

APPA's Effective & Innovative Practices Award recognizes programs and processes that enhance service delivery, lower costs, increase productivity, improve customer service, generate revenue, or otherwise benefit the educational institution. Entries can describe either a new program or significant restructuring of an existing program or process.

Projects displaying a high-level of innovation and adaptability/transferrability for implementation at other schools have the best chance of being favorably ranked.

Up to five ranked submissions will be eligible for a cash award of $4,000, thanks to the generous sponsorship provided by Sodexo USA. Winning entries will receive special recognition at APPA's annual conference and in Facilities Manager magazine.

Entries are judged on a point system based on:

Institutional Benefit (100 pts)
Innovative, Creativity, and Originality (300 pts)
Portability and Sustainability (300 pts)
Management Commitment and Employee Involvement (150 pts)
Documentation, Analysis, Customer Input, and Benchmarking (150 pts)

Study Shows School Cleanliness Affects Learning

Entitled Cleanliness and Learning in Higher Education, the national study of college students was based around the five levels of clean identified in APPA’s Custodial Staffing Guidelines for Educational Facilities. More information.
