APPA meets the needs of facilities professionals across their career continuum and across a broad range of institutional types, specifically adding value for each. For example:
Institutions with financial resources and larger staff, like doctorate granting research universities or comprehensive doctoral granting institutions, look to APPAs professional development programs to provide training and support for their staff, many of whom are seeking guidance to forward their career tracks.
Senior facilities officers value the connections APPA provides with peers and thought leaders in education who are transforming and creating new, innovative, and effective learning environments Those charged with long-range planning, institutional stewardship, and overall facilities administration, benefit from APPAs cutting-edge research, standards, and tools designed to guide planning, as well as support and verify institutional decisions.
The addition of the credentialing and certification program serves professionals seeking to underscore their experience and training and move up on their career paths. These programs are beneficial to those institutions that tend to be very academic in scope and for whom credentials equal credibility on campus. The resources available through APPAs publications and research programs also help support these facilities professionals.
Other institutions where facilities professionals wear many hats, like liberal arts and community colleges, benefit from networking with peers at related or regional institutions to compare challenges and best practices. They value the management resources, research tools and training that APPA provides across the spectrum of facilities management issues. APPA membership helps facilities departments build credibility, as it helps support the professionalism of and standards in the field.
